Career Transition For Dancers Annual Galas
Mounting high-profile special events requires an extraordinary artistic vision coupled with the ability to develop a creative concept; select and manage talent, including world-renowned celebrities; hire and oversee a production team including dozens of designers, technicians, and craftspeople; supervise all aspects of production, marketing, and graphic design; develop budgets; and more.
Each autumn since 2002, Ann Marie has served as producer/director for the Career Training for Dancers Gala at New York’s 2,750-seat City Center. Under her leadership, the event has showcased over 50 works featuring hundreds of dancers and other performers each year from a wide spectrum of the dance world that includes everything from ballet, Broadway, ballroom, circus, modern, hip hop, tap, and Momix, to ethnic dances of Japan, Brazil, India and American Indians. The gala has included performances and special appearances from such notable guest artists as James Earl Jones, Jane Krawkoski, Bebe Neuwirth, Sandy Duncan, Angela Lansbury, Liza Minnelli, Chita Rivera, Tommy Tune, Brooke Shields, and many others.
With Ann Marie at its helm, this unique cross-genre celebration of dancers and their artistry has earned its place as one of the highlights of the dance season in New York. |

The evening, America Dances!, a well curated, performed, produced and entertaining show, proved just how good dancers are at what they do, be it on stage, back stage or after stage. Hats off to the performers, DeAngelo Productions and CTFD.

What better way to bring diverse cultures together but through the universal art form of dance. Colored with a variety of ethnic dances as well as ballet and modern, ONE WORLD celebrates our sameness and reflects the rich cultural fabric of New York City.
"Only if I were Renée Fleming with James Levine conducting plus the Met chorus could I properly sing your praises for an amazingly created and presented program last night - the program last night was terrific! I loved the vast spectrum of dance on the bill; I loved the age range of the dancers; I loved the novelty of live accompaniment on stage; and I loved the vast spectrum of traditional costumes with vivid colors and designs. I know there were a zillion details which go into a program like this and I applaud you for making it all come together in what I think was one of the smoothest programs yet!” Amy Bermant Adler, Conde Naste Publications

“The big gala performance celebrating 20 years of Career Transition for Dancers zipped though 13 dances in less than two hours with no intermission. Ann Marie DeAngelo created this fantastic evening, the most exhilarating benefit occasion I’ve ever seen” WQXR 9603 FM –Word of Dance, Francis Mason
"Dance benefit leaves crowd speechless! Put the fearfully flexible World Cup Shooting Star cheerleaders into a production number with American Ballet Theater apprentices and hip-hop soloist Mr. Wiggles, and what do you get? The other night at City Center you got an acrobatic streetwise, semi-classical free-for-all that crackled with skill and enthusiasm. It was the perfect opening for the annual Career Transition for Dancers (CTFD) gala. Even Liza Minnelli, not often speechless, was awestruck..." Michael J. Fressola, Staten Island Advance

"For a Good Cause, Saluting Dance on the Little Screen"
"This year's program Dancing on Air, gave dance on television its due, "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Bell Telephone Hour". The works performed ranged from George Balanchine's rarely seen version of 'Diana and Acteon' pas de deux to Toni Basil's MTV-style 'Mickey', with a team of cheerleaders...it was the usual entertaining mixed bag, but the entries were to the point..." Participants included Marge Champion, Toni Basil, Jane Lanier, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Orfeh, Phylicia Rashad, Chita Rivera, Donald Saddler and dancers from American Ballet Theater, Alvin Ailey, Dance Theater of Harlem, Joffrey Ballet, Mercedes Ellington's June Taylor dance tribute, and Miami City Ballet. Debbie Allen recieved the Rolex Award. Anna Kisselgoff

Is your show an Artistic Creation or Artistic Assembly?
The importance of that question is that it dictates the best organizational producing model for you to use. Knowing that determines creative and production timelines - talent and content. And, determines what materials you can have for marketing to presenters.
How do you best secure talent for pick-up company situations?
This is an important issue to understand in today's economic climate for non-union ventures.
